Albert Road Cemetery & War Memorial Garden Green Flag Award 2022/23

Albert Road Cemetery and War Memorial Garden are flying the flag as one of the UK’s very best green spaces!

Hedge End Town Council is extremely proud to announce that Albert Road Cemetery and the War Memorial Garden have achieved The Green Flag Award for the 14th year running.

In granting this top environmental accolade, judges said the attractive, interesting areas met the highest standards and were very well maintained. 

Cllr. Jane Welsh, Chair of Hedge End Town Council’s Recreation and Amenities Committee, said  “We are so proud to win this award for another year and equally proud of our hardworking staff who put so much care into looking after this special area where people come to pay their respects.”

The Town Council’s aim and vision is to provide the highest quality service as a Burial Authority, not just as an essential amenity at the most sensitive and demanding time, but also in providing a peaceful and tranquil place of rest that can be visited for its beauty, wildlife and quiet contemplation.

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd MBE said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Hedge End Town Council in achieving a Green Flag Award.

“The Albert Road Cemetery and War Memorial Garden are vital green spaces for the community in Hedge End. The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.”
