Green Flag to fly high in Hedge End

We are delighted to announce that the Albert Road Cemetery and the War Memorial Garden have been judged to be amongst the best green spaces in the country and honoured with a Green Flag Award for the 15th year running.
Each year, the Green Flag Award scheme recognises the UK’s best public outdoor spaces, with winners assessed on the overall quality of green space and the work that goes into keeping grounds in pristine condition.
Chair of the Recreation and Amenities Committee, Cllr. Jane Welsh said “We are so thrilled to have won this award again. The Albert Road Cemetery always looks so beautiful. It is a very special place and I’d like to congratulate all those involved in keeping it this way.”

The Cemetery is a tranquil place, with a wild flower meadow and well-maintained lawned areas. The upmost care is taken to keep it looking pristine for visitors.
The international award scheme sets the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
